Topic- “Where did I come from?”
L.I- To understand the concepts of “time” and “the past.
- Define “bipedalism”- Refers to having two feet
- Define “quadrupedalism”- Refers to having four feet
Definitions;
Hominid- A primate of a family (Hominidae) that includes humans and their fossil ancestors.
Homosapiens- Humans, known taxonomically as Homo sapiens
Civilisation- civilization: the social process whereby societies achieve an advanced stage of development and organization.
Evolution- The process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms.
The gradual development of something, esp. from a simple to a more complex form.
Archaeology- The study of human history and prehistory through the excavation of sites and the analysis of artifacts
Ancient- Belonging to the very distant past and no longer in existence.
Primary/Secondary source- Primary: that is collected during the event/at the time Secondary: that is collected after the event
Prehistory- The period of time before written records.
The events or conditions leading up to a particular occurrence or phenomenon: “the prehistory of capitalism”.
Walking with cavemen- summary
- 3.5 million years ago – “afarensis” – a species of ape roams east Africa.
- A few million years previously, Africa was a dense rainforest.
- Apes used all 4 limbs to live and hunt on tree tops.

Episode 2
- 2-3 million years ago there were several different species of upright walking hominids – the “boisei” and the “habillis”.
- Each developed their own strategies for survival.
- “Boisei” were led by a dominant male. They had huge teeth, strong jaws which meant they could eat tough vegetation.
- “Habillis” – were meat eaters, this enabled their brains to develop due to protein in red meat. They also used basic stone tools.
Episode 3 – 2 important things…
- Cavemen used rock paintings to express imagination.
- Tribes used spears to capture animals to help survive.
- They stored water in an ostrich eggs and put a stopper on the top so they could save water!
